As part of our commitment to fighting the battle against cancer, on the seventh day of every month, Newschannel 7 in partnership with the American Cancer Society brings you Health Check 7. This month we spoke to a man who is fighting his own battle with the disease.

Terry Bernarde was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus in October. He says after he beat Hodgkins Lymphoma back in 1995, he organized an annual dart tournament at Dales Weston Lanes, to raise money for cancer research.

Saturday, his friends and family gathered at The Bar in Rothschild, to help him get through the fight of his life.

"I don't know what to say, I'm just stumped, dumbfounded that there's these many people that could pull together for you," said Terry Bernarde.

A raffle also took place at the benefit for Terry, where all of the items were donated by local businesses.

I would like to know if you would say something about childrens cancer. My husband died 7 mo. ago and 2 mo. to the day my grand-daughter who was 2 was dianosed with Leukemia. No one seems to say much about Childrens Cancer. My grand-daughter's name is Alexis Lemke. She has gone thru bone marrow tests, had blood,& platlets. She lives in Suamico, WI right outside of Green Bay. She goes to St. Vincents. Can you help me and my daughter and her family to get the word out? We are desparet for help and for knowledge to get out. Anything you can do to promote this would be exceptional. She really doesn't know how sick she is. If she beats this she will not be able to go to school until she is 6. I email many children with cancer, from babies on up. It is very sad. I am praying you can do something to get the word out.
