Formerly Conjoined Twins Doing Well 2 Years Later
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- Formerly conjoined twins from Sheboygan are doing well two years after they were separated.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- Formerly conjoined twins from Sheboygan are doing well two years after they were separated.

Mateo and McHale Shaw were born in May 2006 joined at the lower back and with conjoined spinal cords. The boys were separated two years ago Saturday in an 18-hour operation at Children's National Medical Hospital in Washington, D.C.

They've had 25 surgeries between them and will need more. But their parents say they are doing well overall.

Ryan and Angie Shaw say the twins are happy little boys who can crawl and sleep 12 uninterrupted hours each night. Their medications have been reduced from 20 between them to three.

And the boys can sing the alphabet and count to 10 in English and Spanish.

All that, the Shaws say, is a miracle.
