WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Wisconsin watchdog group claims organic baby formula commonly uses ingredients that are prohibited by federal regulations - and is asking the government to stop it.

The Cornucopia Institute also alleges that the ingredients - omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids - are linked to side effects such as diarrhea and vomiting in infants.

The manufacturer of the ingredients, Martek Biosciences of Columbia, Maryland, says there is no evidence that the products lead to the side effects.

And it says the fatty acids are allowed in organic products as "accessory nutrients" - which Cornucopia disputes.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture enforces the organic regulations.

A spokeswoman says the agency is reviewing the complaint.
