MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A new survey shows that support for a statewide smoking ban covering all bars, restaurants and workplaces is increasing.

69 percent of survey respondents say they support such a law.

That was up from 64 percent who were surveyed in February 2007.

The latest random telephone survey of 500 Wisconsin voters was conducted March 12 through March 16.

The survey released Tuesday was sponsored by groups that support a ban and was conducted by a political polling firm.

Its margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

The survey comes after a proposed ban died in the Legislature under opposition from the lobbying group representing bars.

I agree with Steve from Merrill. How can the Public tell a business owner how to operate thier business. They pay the morgage, taxes, operating cost, etc. If the "public" don't like it, the "public" has an option not to patronize that place or buisness. That is the freedom of expression that is granted by the bill of rights. More laws to reduce our freedoms don't make the world a better place. O' by the way, I'm a non-smoker.

Maybe the government can control more things. How much gas we use, what kind of vehicle to drive, what legal substances we can use. I hope the next law is to ban fat people from eating at fast food restaraunts, discrimination against smokers is fine, anything else, race or weight is a no no. Rediculous. Maybe we should raise the taxes on the obese, like the cigarette smokers are singled out for smoking, raising their cig taxes 1$ per pack, maybe the obese should pay more for medical insurance, because they are more likely to have a heart attack. This country is far from free, more communist or socialist everysingle day, with every single new controling law.
