JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- Ingredients better suited for a cookie recipe are being used to treat Janesville's wastewater.
Workers are dumping sugar and molasses into the wastewater at the treatment plant.
Utilities director Dan Lynch says the ingredients replace chemicals that aren't as friendly to the environment.
He says it should cut down on the amount of harmful chemicals at risk of being released into the Rock River.
The city has hired Earth Tech to monitor its biological treatment process.
