MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- J.B. Van Hollen has shown he's a prosecutor and a campaigner. Now, as one of the few Republicans elected yesterday, he'll be tested as a politician.
The stage in Madison is set for some clashes. Governor Doyle, a Democrat, is being investigated for campaign fund-raising violations by both state and federal prosecutors.
Van Hollen has promised to restore integrity to state government.
But Doyle and the Legislature -- now split between Republicans and Democrats -- hold the purse strings to the Department of Justice. Van Hollen will have to show he can negotiate across the aisle to achieve his goals.
Still, Van Hollen says today no government official is above scrutiny when it comes to ethics and he'll continue the investigations into the Doyle administration.
Van Hollen says Doyle called him this morning and the two pledged to work together.
