Wis. Elections Board Says Midterm Turnout About 50 Percent
Reporter: Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state Elections Board says voter turnout in yesterday's general election appears to be about 50 percent.

That's the highest in a midterm election since 1970.

Elections Board executive director Kevin Kennedy says preliminary indications are that just over 2.1 million votes were cast in the races for governor and attorney general. The state's estimated voting-age population is 4.2 million.

The final figures won't be available for 30 to 45 days.
