Doyle's Campaign Trail Runs Through Beloit
Posted: 3:47 PM Nov 3, 2006
Reporter: Associated Press

BELOIT, Wis. (AP) -- Governor Doyle is rallying firefighters in Beloit this morning to get to the polls Tuesday.

Doyle told about 75 firefighters and others gathered at the city's main fire station that the governor's race will "be decided by whether people go to the polls."

Doyle accused Republicans of trying to discourage people from voting by flooding the airways with negative ads.

Earlier today, Doyle told union loyalists in Janesville that "every single vote matters."

The Democratic governor, facing a tight race for re-election, urged union members at the local United Auto Workers hall to double and triple efforts to get out the vote.

Doyle accused Republicans of trying to distract voters with hot-button social issues instead of focusing on creating jobs, making health care more affordable and improving the agricultural economy.

The governor says he considered the Janesville UAW hall to be good luck because it's where he got his first labor endorsement 30 years ago when he ran for Dane County district attorney.
