Green Courts Hunting, Fishing Voters

MENOMINEE, Wis. (AP) -- Republican candidate for governor, Mark Green, courted voters who hunt during a stop in Menominee today.

Congressman Green told about 50 hunters gathered at a lodge that he would protect their right to bear arms and try to stop bureaucrats who try to restrict their access to hunting land.

Green, himself a hunter, told the group that he shares their belief in the hunting heritage of Wisconsin.

Green has the backing of the National Rifle Association, whose volunteers have been present at campaign events handing out "Dump Doyle" stickers.

The candidate's message resonated with people like Rog Wieman, a retiree from Menominee. Wieman says he backs Green because he wants his grandson to grow up to be a hunter.
