Nearly everyone has heard of the online social network Facebook, but have you heard of Togetherville?

It's like Facebook, but directed toward kids aged 6-10.

With Togetherville, kids can play and connect with real-life friends and family in a child-friendly environment.

The site is similar to sites like Facebook, but is age-appropriate and parent-monitored.

"We don't encourage kids to spend more time online but we encourage parents and kids to work together to get better quality out of the time they spend online," said Mandeep Dhillon, CEO and founder of Togtherville.

But is it safe for kids? Dhillon says it is.

"The only way somebody who has bad intent is gonna get around your child is if you actually added that person into your neighborhood," he said.

Parents create their child's account by using their own Facebook identification and log-in. If a parent doesn't have Facebook, Togtherville isn't yet available to them or their children.

Once Togetherville verifies the Facebook account, the child can log on to access videos, games, and create art.

"We certainly are using the internet more and more," said Joel VerDuin, director of technology and media services for the Wausau School District.

He says parents should keep in mind what their child is getting into, and always look into privacy controls.

"I certainly think anytime we don't have balance in our lives, that there could be concerns," he said.

He says the internet is a key learning tool for children as young as first graders.

Togetherville pledges not to give out private information. But the choice to log on, is yours.

"I would give advice to any parents to just know what it is that they decide to use with their children and understand what privacy means," VerDuin said.
