Campus life may be getting more expensive for students attending the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
The current cost of room and board for living on campus is a little more than 51 hundred dollars for the school year.
But all schools in the UW System are considering increasing fees to fund renovation projects.
The Wayne family from Plum City, near Eau Claire, has been saving for several years to send their oldest son Michael, to college.
"It's such a great experience the things he'll see, the people he'll meet, and everyone here has been so helpful I think we've put him in good hands," says Michael's mom Amy Wayne.
But the great experience may cost them more than they originally planned.
UWSP is proposing increasing room and board by more than 400 and 30 dollars per year.
The Vice Chancellor, Bob Tomlinson says the funds will go toward upgrading the residence halls.
"We are working hard to have safe buildings and we try and balance that out with what the students want. We are trying to be conscious of the rate increases. We know that money is coming right out of mom and dad's pocket," says Tomlinson.
If the fee increase does pass...The Wayne family says they will manage and Michael's father Matt offers this advice to other parents. "Good Luck, it's going to be tough."
The UW System Board of Regents is expected to review the budget and decide on the proposed increases by the end of the week.
