There’s good news if your name is on the waiting list for a converter box coupon from the Federal Government, or if your coupons expired.
According to the website for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, some recent Federal legislation will help. The Economic Stimulus Package signed by President Obama on Tuesday includes additional funding for the coupon program. The N.T.I.A. expects to fill all waiting requests in the next few weeks.
Also, the DTV Delay Act signed by the President last week allows the Coupon Program to provide 1 replacement coupon per household for coupons that expired without being redeemed. Anyone needing a replacement will be able to apply at the Coupon Program’s website, www.dtv2009.gov, as soon as system changes are put in place by the program.
The converter box coupons are for $40 each, and can be used towards the purchase of digital converter boxes. The boxes are necessary for anyone wishing to watch digital television signals over-the-air on an analog television.
