MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Midwest Airlines Customers say they are experiencing long hold times for phone and long lines at airport to rebook flights.
Midwest Airlines is announcing a major cut to its flight schedule -- dropping its departures from Milwaukee from 118 a day down to 90 a day.
Several cities will lose flights from Midwest Airlines and its sister Midwest Express entirely, including service to CWA in North Central, Wis.
Tony Yaron, manager of Central Wisconsin Airport says that the cuts should not affect service for its' patrons, as the other airlines will pick up the slack in Midwest's absence.
And while the loss of service will mean less revenue for the airport, he says it shouldn't have an impact on plans for a new terminal at CWA.
Yaron says, "The airport board has gone into this terminal area planning knowing full well that at any time there could be a downturn in the industry (and) we would re-think our plan; certainly that's where we are now."
The Florida cities of Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers won't get flights anymore. The company says its too difficult to justify long flights to leisure destinations. Tampa will be the only Florida city retaining year-round service from Midwest.
Flights to Minneapolis, Washington D.C., and New York's La Guardia airport are still on the schedule.
The changes take effect September 8 -- and come on top of planned job cuts at the airline.
