Thomas Walter Urmanski, 69, Stevens Point, died on Sunday, August 24 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, after a three year struggle with kidney disease.
Tom was born on August 3, 1945 to the late Walter and Kathryn G. (Hahnheiser) in Wausau, Wisconsin. He graduated from Newman High School in 1963 and received his Master’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1969. He started his career in the Wausau School District before settling in Stevens Point in 1977 where he worked as a social worker for Portage County until his retirement in 2002. He also served his country in the National Guard and then US Army Reserve for 20 years as a member of the 44th General Hospital.
He was a loving spouse, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Tom is survived by his wife of 24 years, Terri Urmanski, and seven children Gail (Dan) Jackson, Wausau, Matthew (Michelle) Urmanski, Kentucky, Kent (Heather) Urmanski, Wausau, Bob Urmanski (Green Bay), Melinda (Jack) Raikowski, Iola, Jason (Teresa) Boris, Iola, and Chrissy (Matt) Yach, Menomonie. He is further survived by his stepmother Jean Urmanski (Wausau) and siblings Jack (Debbie) Urmanski, Sussex, Mary Kay (Malcolm) Whittum, Wausau, Ann (Tom) Line, Wausau, Mary Alice (Steve) Benaszeski, Monico, Michael (Carrie) Urmanski, Algoma, sister in-law, Tami (Peter) Elliker, Appleton and father and mother-in-law, Earl and Betty Bork (Stevens Point).
Tom and Terri have been blessed with 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews. They wish to thank all their family and friends for their support over the last three years including the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday August 28, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church Stevens Point with Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating. Burial will full military honors in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home 703 Second Street and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.
