Chester J. Cherek, 87, of Weston, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Mount View Care Center on August 7, 2014.

Chet was born on July 9, 1927 to the late John and Victoria (Isadore) Cherek. He joined the U.S Navy in 1945 and was enlisted until 1947; he was awarded the peace medal for his bravery and action during WWII.

Chet married the love of his life, Mary Turzinski on June 20, 1953, they were married for 61 years. Together they had eight children. Soon after they were married, Chet went to work for Weyerhaeuser and retired after 38 years of service; 15 of those years he was also owner and operator of Stanke Sewer.

First and Foremost, Chet was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a dedicated fan to the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. Chet

was also an avid hobby farmer and enjoyed his time on the family farm. Grandpa will forever be remembered for his famous stories and they will think about them often while they are out on the “Chesterfields Disc Golf Course.”

Chet is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Bruce (Giselle) Cherek, Marge (Randy) Snippen, Lori (Dan) Artz, Allan (Cindy) Cherek, Kurt (Debbie Engman) Cherek; daughter-in-law, Debbie Cherek; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws; Esther Cherek, Irene Cherek, Marge Ostrowski and Henrietta Adamski; brother-in-law, Dave (Sandy) Turzinski and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Cherek, infant twin sons Jacob and Jeffery; 3 brothers, Frank, John and Ervin Cherek; 2 brothers at infancy; 5 sisters, Helen Dombrowski, Marian Firkus, Martha Firkus, Laura (Fenske) Draeger and Eleanor Koscheski.

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on August 11, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 6101 Zinser St, Weston, WI. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Rev. Greg Bohren will officiate. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, Comfort Care and Hospice Services and Mount View Care Center for all of their support and a special thank you to Father Greg Bohren for all the times he visited Chet at the Nursing Home.
