James MacKinnis, 78, Wittenberg, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Langlade Hospital under the care of LeRoyer Hospice Services.
He was born on June 10, 1935 in Delafield, the son of the late James and Leila (Boyce) MacKinnis. His family moved to Winnebago, near Oshkosh in 1945. James attended Oshkosh High School and U.W. Oshkosh.
James was a U.S. Army Veteran.
In 1964, James met Jacqueline Flanigan who became his wife on October 14, 1972 and was the love of his life.
James was employed by Mercury Marine for over 30 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and baseball player and loved to play pool.
James and Jacqueline raised five children in Neenah before returning to Wittenberg where James was a proud member of the Ho-Chunk Nation.
James is survived by his wife Jacqueline and five children, Ron (Rebecca) Schlaeger, Los Angeles, CA, Terry (Richard) Werner, Hancock, WI, Valerie (Kevin) Holler, Minneapolis, MN, Paul MacKinnis, Wittenberg and Lisa (David) Weyenberg, Avon, IN. James is also survived by two sisters, Christine (Doug) Steeples, Macon, GA and Marguerite (Don) LeBeck, Longmont, CO, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his extended family, Gloria Visintin, Ona Garvin, Dallas Whitewing, Perry and Georgianna (Whitewing) Funmaker, Gary and Lori Whitewing, John Whitewing and Robert Whitewing.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris MacKinnis and Elizabeth (George) Fink.
The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Mr. Martin Littlewolf will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1pm until 3pm at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post #502 and the American Legion Andrew Blackhawk Post 129, Black River Falls following the service.
