Jerome Charles Backes, age 85, of Wausau died on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Wausau Manor, Wausau.
Jerome was born on August 26, 1928 in Appleton, WI to the late John and Ann (Riedl) Backes. After high school Jerome went on to serve his country in the US Army for 37 years where he earned the rank of Command Sergeant Major in the 213 S&S Battalion in Wausau. Jerome married the love of his life Rosanne Bork on June 22, 1951. Sharing a life together for 62 years
He also finished two years in Business School and went on to work in sales for American Can/James River.
Besides his love for his God, Country and Family; Jerome also enjoyed fishing, wood working and making jewelry. Jerome was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Rosanne of Wausau; his children Jim (Susan) Backes, Mosinee, Mary (John) Miller, Wausau, Ann (Bruce) Iattoni, Merrill, seven grandchildren; Jonathan and Megan, John, Steven and Daniel, Katie and Rachel, five great grandchildren; Ellieanna, Madeline, Kaelyn, Makenna and Olivia.
Besides his parents; Jerome was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, October 18, 2013 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 6205 Alderson St, Weston. The Rev. Raymond Connor will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:30 am until the time of service at the church. Entombment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Jerome’s name be sent to: Never Forgotten Honor Flight, P.O Box 5056, Wausau, WI 54402-5056
