Martha E. Behn, 88, formerly of Aniwa, died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation – Eastview, Antigo.
She was born on January 12, 1925 in Alberta, Canada, the daughter of the late William and Elsie (Stebner) Wedman.
On August 4, 1950, Martha was united in marriage to Wilbert Behn in Birnamwood. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2011.
Martha worked as a seamstress until she and Wilbert opened Behn’s Game Farm in Aniwa in 1962. The couple owned and operated the game farm until retirement in 2005. Martha adored animals and enjoyed teaching people about them. She also brought baby animals to the television show, Romper Room. Martha taught Sunday School for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aniwa for many years. She enjoyed flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and the rest of her family.
Survivors include three children, Dwight (Karen) Behn, Alexandria, MN, Cindy (Bob) Kosterman and Duane (Candy) Behn, both of Aniwa; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Rose (Peter), Ellie, Tracy (Paul), Doris (Hans) and Carolyn; one brother, Douglas (Anne) and sister-in-law, Leona Brown. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen, Millie, Linda, Florence, Harold and Martin.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood. Rev. Robert Bleeke will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9am until the time of services at the funeral home. The family guestbook and condolences are available at schmidtschulta.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
