Norbert J. Brounacker, 76, formerly of Birnamwood, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Langlade Hospital.
He was born on March 19, 1937 in the town of Norrie, son of the late Edward and Johanna (Konkol) Brounacker.
Norbert worked at the former Birnamwood Veneer Mill and the Mattoon Veneer Mill for a number of years. He also worked as a bartender at Chet & Emil’s, Mayflower Lake Resort and a number of other bars in the Birnamwood area. Norbert was very involved in the community of Birnamwood. He served on the village board and was a member of the Improvement Club. Norbert was a faithful member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, Birnamwood and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include two brothers, James (Carol) Brounacker, Hatley and Thomas (Patricia) Brounacker, Mauston and one sister, Barbara (John) Blaskowski, Fort Collins, Colorado. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Norbert was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy “June” Heinrich and Joann Brounacker, in infancy and one brother, Roy Brounacker.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Birnamwood. Fr. Anthony Ibekwe will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9am until the time of services at the church. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood is assisting the family with arrangements. The family guestbook and condolences are available at In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Matsche Center, Birnamwood in Norbert’s name. The family would like to thank the staff at Eastview Medical and Rehab, Langlade Hospital and all of Norbert’s caregivers throughout the years for their loving care.
