Almira M. Redeker, 93, of Wausau, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Benedictine Center, Wausau.
She was born April 5, 1920 in the Town of Wien to the late Gerhard and Ida (Bauman) Umnus. Almira attended the Little Red School House in the Town of Wien and went to the Wausau School of Cosmetology. She managed then owned the Schofield Beauty Shop for 13 years, making many friendships there that lasted a lifetime.
After she and Leonard married on October 22, 1949 in Stratford, they also farmed in the Town of Cleveland. Later they moved to Wausau to raise their family still maintaining the farm. She taught Sunday school and was involved with the Ladies Aid for many years at Ebenezer U.C.C. in Stratford.
After retiring from farming, they joined Grace U.C.C. Almira turned her talents to baking and gardening sharing their bountiful harvests daily with friends and family with Leonard being her delivery-man, leaving their gifts on many doorsteps.
She was greatly involved with various Bible Study groups always searching for a greater understanding of God’s Word. Her kindness and compassion were shining examples of God’s love working through her helping others.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Brian) Woodward, DePere; and their daughter, Stacy (Ian) Thaler, Henderson, NV; son, Perry (Ruth) Redeker, Wausau; sister-in-law, June Umnus, Fenwood.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; brother, Gerhard Umnus; sister, Elsie Umnus; and special friend, Emma Borchardt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Grace United Church of Christ, 535 S. 3rd Ave., Wausau. Rev. Wayne C. Drueck will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
