Edna L. Halverson, 93, formerly of Elderon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Ministry St. Clare's Hospital, Weston with her family by her side.
She was born on July 19, 1919 in the Village of Elderon, the daughter of the late John and Emma (Wedde) Clifford. On August 28, 1943, Edna was united in marriage to Marlyn Halverson in Elderon. He survives.
Marlyn and Edna owned and operated the Elderon Grocery Store and Edna was also employed by Nueske Meats, Wittenberg. The couple lived in the Village of Elderon for 59 years until moving to the Donald Wick Villa, Wittenberg, in 2007. Edna was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Elderon and it's Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Our Savior's Sunshine Club and loved the responsibility of sending cards to members who had birthdays, illnesses or just needed 'cheering up'. Edna enjoyed reading, cooking, playing cards and road trips but especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Marlyn, survivors include a daughter, LaVonne 'Vonnie' Johnson, Elderon; a son, Randy Halverson, Forest Park, IL; two grandchildren, Lori (Kevin) Hart, Kronenwetter and Vicki (Will) Ashenbrenner, Madison; four great-grandchildren, Adam and Hannah Hart and Joe and Sam Ashenbrenner and a sister-in-law and niece, Petie Halverson, Stevens Point.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Johnson and nine siblings, Clarence, George, Kenneth, Olive Baumgardt, Isabelle Verkuilen, Lily Spranger, Caroline Hamm, Juanita James and Adeline Stroik.
The Funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Elderon. The Rev. Harvey Abrahamson will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Rest Cemetery, Elderon. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and again on Thursday from 9:30AM until the time of service at the church.
