Funeral Home: Brainard
Ruth H. (Loken) Pelzer, 98, died on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Poplar Place Assisted Living in Rothschild with her daughter and son-in-law at her side.
Ruth was born in Winona, MN on January 23, 1915 to Clarence W. and Hattie J. (Miller) Loken. When she was three the family moved to Sidney, Montana. After graduation from high school Ruth moved back to Winona and attended Winona Business College. She was employed at J. R. Watkins Company as a secretary and in later years worked as a clerk for SE Farm Management.
On October 17, 1936 Ruth married William H. Pelzer. Bill was the office manager at Froedtert Malting Company in Winona until his retirement in 1974. They built a home in Heber Springs, Arkansas and lived there until 1993 when they moved to the Weston area to be closer to family. Ruth was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Schofield and regularly attended Women’s Fellowship at the church, helped with funeral luncheons and made baptismal towels. She and Bill attended Body Recall classes for many years where they enjoyed exercising with other senior friends.
Ruth was well-known for her cookie baking. When she knew the family was coming to visit she would have the cookie jars filled with all their favorites. The grandchildren also put her sewing abilities to work with mending torn jeans and mending socks. She was also queen of the washing machine and ironing board – nothing dirty laid around very long.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Greg) Falkowski of Weston; Grandchildren Mark (Jenny) Kowalski of Belleville, WI; Keith (Lanae Slizewski) Kowalski of Three Lakes, WI; Craig (Beth) Falkowski of Rothschild; great grandchildren: Jacob Kowalski, Allison Kowalski, Brooke Kowalski, Nicholas Falkowski, Abigail Falkowski, and Megan Kopp, and special family Beth and Turk Flory and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Brainard Funeral Home – Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston. Rev. Larry Treece of Peace United Church of Christ will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Endowment Fund of Peace United Church of Christ, Schofield, or to the family to be distributed to charities of their choice.
