Edgar A. Gunderson, 83, Wausau, died on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born on November 3, 1929 in Wausau, the son of the late Edwin and Harriet (Johnson) Gunderson.

Edgar was a United States Army Veteran serving as a medic during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Edgar was a member of the Burns Post #388 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wausau. Edgar was also a member of the Man of Honor Society and the Eagle's Club.

Survivors include two children, Jeffrey Gunderson, Minneapolis and Julie Gunderson, Eden Prairie, MN; his special friend, Judy Weyneth, Wausau; former wife and friend, Joann Gunderson, Eden Prairie, MN; three grandchildren, Lacy Gunderson, Jeffrey R. Gunderson and Maddie Gunderson; one great-grandchild, Brody Gunderson-Lex; his sister, June (John) Brendalen, Clearbrook, MN; his God Daughter, Syndee Martin, his Cocker Spaniel and faithful companion, Hannah who will be laid to rest with Edgar and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Edgar was preceded in death by his siblings, Melvin, Wesley, Morris, Stanley, Wallace, Gerald Gunderson and Orma Little.

Edgar was a man of many talents including cars, cooking and carpentry. He played numerous musical instruments without any formal training--many will remember him for his harmonica and guitar. He was a gifted singer and spent a good part of his career as a singing bartender. Edgar lived life to the fullest and enjoyed telling a good joke, playing a game of blackjack at the casino, finding a good deal at an auction, and drinking a smooth brandy manhattan. He was larger than life itself, was loved by many and will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Hogarty Community Church, with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Rev. Roger Davis will officiate. Interment will be in Hogarty Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4PM to 8PM at the Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood and again on Friday from 10AM until the time of service at the church.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Mount View Care Center for their compassionate care. In Edgar's words, 'Mount View is a house of Angels, right at the end of Sturgeon Eddy Road.'

And Ed, "if we don't see you in the near future, we'll see you in the far pasture because no matter where you go, there you are."
