Mervil P. Kaufman, 95, Eland, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born on February 24, 1917 in Chicago, the son of the late Edward and Nellie (Ringstad) Kaufman. On October 21, 1939, Mervil was united in marriage to Minnie Piehl in Eland. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2010.
Mervil was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II. He was a logger, painter and worked road and building construction until purchasing a farm in Eland where the couple farmed for many years.
Mervil was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Eland and was formerly Eland Village Trustee, Village Assessor and Shawano County Supervisor. Mervil enjoyed hunting and loved playing and watching baseball, especially attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include four children; Sandy (Lee) Hanson, Cheboygan, MI, Jack Kaufman, Eland, Susanne (Brian) Gilbertson, Wausau and Dawn Wolff, Eland; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and three siblings, Roger Kaufman, Fon du Lac, Peter (Carli) Kaufman, Antigo and Phyllis (Gary) Meidl, Columbus, OH.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mervil was preceded in death by one daughter, Merle Kaufman; one granddaughter, Stephanie Kaufman and five sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Eland. The Rev. Michael Schram will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and again on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at the church.
