Lydia Amelia (Guenther) Sigl, died on Sunday night, Dec. 9th at North Central Health Care where she had resided in the Gardenside Crossing Unit for 4 years.

She was born in the town of March Rapids on Feb. 17, 1915 and had reached the age of 97 years.

Lydia started working early as she was the second of five children and lived on a farm. She was a mother’s helper at age 12 for a neighbor, and continued doing so in Chicago area and Oregon. She also took a job in a factory. When her mother died she moved back to Wisconsin to help her father and younger siblings on the farm and took a job at Marshfield Shoe Factory.

She met Richard Sigl, and married him at St. Johns in Marshfield, in June of 1937. Lydia had many jobs throughout her life, but for 45 years owned and worked the Jolly Corner at 2012 N. Central in Marshfield with her loving husband. He died after 51 years of marriage and was the love of her life.

She had many interests including; bowling, dancing, gardening, and playing cards. She learned to cook on the farm and enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners and holiday meals for not only her grandchildren, but many of her customers and renters as well. She always owned cats and a dog.

Lydia is survived by her daughter and beloved son-in-law, LeRoy and Terra Lee Guralski; grandchildren, Francis (Angela) Guralski and Michael (Stacey) Guralski of Stratford, Matthew (Angela) Guralski of Weston, James (Kim) Guralski of Franklin, Mass., and Bernard Guralski of Wausau; great-grandchildren, Danielle (19), Nicholas (16), Mitchell (15), Makayla (14), Isaac (13), Erica (11) and Callie (3); and by beloved nieces and nephews; and friend, Jan Fruehbrodt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Esther, Bernice, and Berinda, and her brother Earl, her husband Richard and all his brothers and sisters, and a grandson Luke Guralski.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Church, 201 West Blodgett St., Marshfield. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate. Visitation will take place from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau and again from 9:30 am until the time or service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield.

Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau is assisting the family with arrangements.

Thanks to all the CNA’s and nurses at NCHC in the Gardenside Crossing Unit for their consistent compassionate care for 4 years.
