Funeral Home: Brainard
Roger M. Rubow, 74, of Weston, passed away at Aspirus Hospice House on Thursday, November 29, 2012.
He was born to Martin and Marie (Lietzke) Rubow on February 24, 1938, in Wausau.
In 1994 Roger met Joan Foster at the Weston Hit & Miss Trap Club. This began a wonderful, loving, everlasting relationship.
Prior to his retirement in 1999, Roger had been employed at Marathon Corporation, American Can Company, James River Corporation and Fort James Corporation for 42 years and retired in June 1999.
Roger enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, biking, walking and puttering in the yard. He was also Joan’s biggest bowling fan and attended many of her league nights and tournaments including those in Las Vegas and Reno where he could “play a few slots” as well.
He was an avid fisherman and could be found on Lake Wausau or the Wisconsin River in his “retirement boat.” For many years he went on an annual “guys” fishing trip to Canada. He and Joan also enjoyed renting a cottage on Squirrel Lake for an annual week of fishing.
Roger’s sporting passion was skeet and trapshooting. He was a life member of the Weston Hit & Miss Trap Club and the Amateur Trapshooting Association. He and Joan traveled to many local, regional and national trapshoots where he won numerous awards and trophies. His proudest accomplishment was winning 4th place (out of 4081 shooters) in the Grand American Handicap at Vandalia, Ohio in 1996. He also served as a coach to youth shooters at the Weston club.
In addition to Joan Foster, Roger is survived by his sister, Karen (Allen) Grove, two nieces, Patti Grove and Chris (Bruce) Luebbe along with other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Brainard Funeral Home, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston with Rev. Steven Russell officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A private burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wausau at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Thank you to the many care providers at Azura Memory Care, Aspirus Wausau Hospital and Hospice House for their compassionate care and assistance during this difficult time.
