Richard L. Vedner, age 76 of Rib Mountain, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012. He was born on September 30, 1936 in LaCrosse, WI, son of the late Joseph and Isabella (Rourk) Vedner. Dick proudly served his country, serving two terms during the Vietnam War. He began his service in the US Marine Corps. from 1956 to 1959, the US Navy from 1961 to 1969, and the US Army from 1969 to 1981. He was the recipient of two bronze stars in 1972, a meritorious service medal in 1980, two air medals in 1972 and an Army commendation medal in Vietnam in 1970. On January 17, 1992 he married Carol Krebsbach in Wausau. Dick was an avid reader who loved the outdoors and hunting. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his pets. He was a member of the VFW Burns Post #388 and the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10. Survivors include his wife, Carol Vedner of Rib Mountain; his children, Jeni (Carl) Crider, TX, Chris Vedner and Leslie Vedner both of Austin, TX; his step-children, Chris (Jenny) Socha, Chas (Oriana) Layman, and Kelly (Brett) Mumford, all of Wausau; two sisters, Sue-Claire (Douglass) Seeber of Chippewa Falls, and Patricia (William) Dernbach of Rib Mountain; four grandchildren, Ronnie and Katie Crider, and Kirra and Jacob Socha; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St. Wausau.
