Mary Daisy Hanke, 97, formerly of Elderon, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Homme Home of Wittenberg under the care of AseraCare Hospice Services.
She was born on September 26, 1915 in Milwaukee the daughter of the late Ben and Martha (Scheffler) Hill.
On February 11, 1939, she was united in marriage to Marlyn "Jeff" Hanke in Wittenberg. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1999.
Mary Daisy was a longtime member of the New Horizons Methodist Church, Wittenberg and was a lifetime member of the Elderon Post #8068 Ladies Auxiliary. She worked for the Commission on Aging and also at the former Wittenberg Bakery. Mary Daisy loved the outdoors, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed angels, Hershey candy bars and spending time with her neighbor boys, Bobbie and Allen Uttecht.
Survivors include one daughter; Marilyn (Dan) Huck, Crystal Falls, MI, two sons; Brian Hanke, Elderon and Bruce (Christine) Hanke, Lakewood, CO, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one sister; Violet Repka, Orlando, FL. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her grandson; Brian Hanke, one great-granddaughter, her brother; Bob (Arlene) Hill and her stepmother, Mabel Hill.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at New Horizons Methodist Church, Wittenberg. Rev. Larry Olson will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Rest Cemetery, Elderon. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9am until the time of services at the church. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg is assisting the family with arrangements. The family guestbook and condolences are available at schmidtschulta.com. The family would like to thank Dr. Young and staff at the Marshfield Clinic, Wittenberg Center; Arlene, Linda and staff at the Homme Home of Wittenberg and Bob's Caring Wheels (Bob Coxen) for all their care. A very special thank you to Bob and Paula Uttecht for all their help and loving care throughout the years.
