Leonard W. Meyer, age 90, Schofield, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at St. Clare Hospital.

Leonard was born July 18, 1922 to the late Alfred and Hulda (Rasche) Meyer in Sauk Rapids, MN. He married Pauline (Geurink) on November 27, 1947 in Wausau. She preceded him in death 1996.

Leonard served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. In 2010, he went on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight with his son John. He was the oldest of sixteen children and was hard-working man, dedicated to his family and helped put his three sons through college. He’s a life-time member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed canning vegetables from his own garden and fishing on the Willow Flowage. Leonard was an avid Minnesota Viking’s fan.

Survivors include his three sons, Dennis (Ellen) Meyer, Memphis, TN, Charles (Nancy) Meyer, Knoxville, TN and John (Lynn) Meyer, Schofield; five grand-children, David, Erin, Phil, Lisa and Greg; four brothers, Richard, Robert, William and Jerry; six sisters, Paulette, Dorothy, Shirley, Marlene, Helen and LaVera. He was also preceded in death by, an infant son James, three brothers, Kenny, Walter and Ronald and two sisters, Virginia and Arlene.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1351 S Grand Avenue, Schofield. Rev. Jeff Mahnke will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Brainard Funeral Home – Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Ct., Weston and again from 9:30 until the time of services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Veteran honors will be given by American Legion Montgomery Plant Post 10, Wausau.
