Kathryn R. Ruenger, 53, Birnamwood, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital, Weston, surrounded by family and friends. Kathy succumbed to cancer after a valiant seven year fight.
She was born on January 14, 1959, the daughter of Bernard and Sharon (Barthels) LaPorte, St. Germain.
On April 15, 1978, Kathy was united in marriage to Dale Ruenger in Schofield. He survives.
Kathy worked secretarial jobs at numerous businesses throughout the area. In 2000, she and Dale started Willows Edge Kennel in Birnamwood. Kathy enjoyed traveling, hiking, gardening and turkey hunting. She was an avid animal lover and was a member of many international hunting dog clubs. Kathy was a loving wife, mother and daughter and a loyal friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband; Dale Ruenger, Birnamwood; her parents; Bernard and Sharon LaPorte, St. Germain; one son; Adam (Cherie) Ruenger, St. Germain; her mother-in-law; Irene Ruenger, Wausau; her uncle; Pierre LaPorte, New York, her aunt; Lorry LaPorte, Wausau; her brothers-in-law; Don (Cathy) Ruenger, Greg Ruenger and Gary (Tammy) Ruenger, all of Wausau and her sisters-in-law; Pam (Mark) Raduechel, Wausau and Lana (Joe) Yakey, Antigo. She is also survived by other relatives, friends and her loyal pack of large munsterlanders and one spoiled beagle.
Kathy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Grace Barthels and Ernest and Aleda LaPorte; her father-in-law; Raymond Ruenger and her aunt, Marjorie LaPorte.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7pm on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood. Visitation will be on Monday from 4pm until the time of services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Langlade County Humane Society in memory of Kathryn.
