Alice M. Steebs, 85, Eland, died Friday, September 14, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born September 29, 1926 in Wausau, the daughter of the late Werner and Laura (Buss) Wolfinger. On January 9, 1952, Alice was united in marriage to Robert ‘Shorty’ Steebs in Birnamwood. He survives.
Alice was a postal clerk and former postmaster for the Eland and Elderon Post Offices, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Holy Family St. William Catholic Church, Wittenberg and a member of the Ladies CCW. Alice enjoyed playing cards, exercising at the Darwin A. Smith Aquatic Center, bowling, gardening and golfing. She also enjoyed camping, traveling and socializing at local restaurants.
Survivors include her husband; Robert ‘Shorty’ Steebs, six children; Paula (Robert) Bassuener, Port Edwards, Bob (LuAnne) Steebs and Tom (Linda) Steebs, both of Wittenberg, Jim (Jan) Steebs, Eland, Bill (Lisa) Steebs, Wittenberg and Ron (Rachel) Steebs, Eland, 15 grandchildren; Luke, Scott (Stephanie), Matthew and Michael Bassuener, Kayla Steebs, Andrea (Rob) Schultz, Mitchell (Dana) Steebs, Vaughn and Sam (Tanya) Steebs, Josh and Jordan Falkowski, Erin Steebs, Ted Steebs, Shannon and Lily Becker, five great grandchildren; Parker and Emelia Bassuener, Rianna and Trevor Schultz and Keane Steebs and three sisters; Dorothy Yaeger, Wittenberg, Joyce Sharon, Antigo and Kay (David) Norrbom, Eland, and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by brothers-in-law John Yaeger and Robert Sharon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Holy Family St. William Catholic Church, Wittenberg. Fr. Patrick Lloyd will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Wittenberg. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4pm to 8pm at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg with a parish prayer service at 7:30pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 am to 10:30am at the funeral home. The family guest book and condolences are available at schmidtschulta.com.
