Beckman, Russell

Funeral Home: Helke

Russell Beckman, 89, of Wausau passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born November 26, 1922 in Wausau to the late Ted and Cora (Bazlen) Beckman. After graduating from Wausau Senior High School, Russell helped his Dad at Parkview Dairy and Beckman’s Standard Service on Stewart Ave. until taking over the business when Ted retired. Russell made many friends at the gas station with his motto: “Fix it yourself, then call Russ.” On December 4, 1943 he married Lorraine Stillman in Wausau. After 40 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on March 5, 1984. Russell married Ann Morgan who also preceded him in death in 1991. Russell was a former member of the Stettin Lion’s Club and always helped sell food and beer at the fair. He had many different interests which included gardening, watching the Packers, Brewers and the Price is Right, Polka dancing, fishing, bowling and playing cribbage. Russell was known for his smile, quick wit and sense of humor along with that wavy hair. Survivors include four children, Jerry (Carolyn) Beckman of Prescott, AZ, Corinne Layton of Scottsdale, AZ, Keith (Jeanne) Beckman of Wausau, Sally (Jay) Long of Tempe, AZ, five grandchildren, Ted (Hilary) Beckman, Justin (Sarah) Layton, Billy Beckman, Tyler and Dylan Long, two great grandchildren, Amelia and Oliver Beckman, one brother, Roger (Marge) Beckman of Wausau and Russell’s special friend, Ruth Kurth of Wausau. Russell was further preceded in death by his daughter, Sheree Lynn. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Reverend Zach Holdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
