Mirek, Marion M.

Funeral Home: Brainard

Marion M Mirek, 71, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, unexpectedly. She was born September 24, 1940, to Walter and Catherine (Weigel) Tremel. She was a graduate of Wausau High School Class of 1958. She married John "Jack" Mirek on November 26, 1960. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2011, having celebrated 50 years of marriage and now together again. Together they had two daughters, Michele and Melanee. While in high school Marion worked at Winkelman's Dept Store. After attending UWSP she worked at Associates Savings & Loan eventually beginning a banking career with First American National Bank. She had a long and successful career in the banking business, working and earning herself many positions throughout her years there. She was probably best known in the loan department where she retired in 2000 as Vice President of Small Business Development of M&I Bank. She had so many enjoyable years there. She was very proud of her accomplishments at the bank and also made many wonderful and dear friends both coworkers and customers, many of these friendships continuing until the time of her passing. She was also involved with various organizations in the area such as Junior Achievement, Wausau Beautification, Block Grant, Altrusa, was on her class reunion committee for many, many years, and others. She loved to travel with her friends and Jack, having visited several countries in Europe as well as many places around the US. After retirement they became snowbirds traveling to Gulf Shores, AL, every winter as long as their health provided. They had old and new friends there year after year to enjoy their time with. In her younger years, Marion was involved with bowling and golf leagues. Up until her untimely passing, she loved playing cards with her card groups and going out to eat with her gal pals and dinner with The Moneybags group of girls from the bank. Of all her achievements in life, Marion was most proud of her family and grandchildren, John and Morgan Platta. She supported all of us in our endeavors, whatever that might be. She attended horse shows, dog shows, basketball and baseball games. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends with plenty of laughter enjoyed by all. She was our rock, the one who was always there when you needed advice to guide you and protect you. She will be missed by many, especially by her family. Rest in peace Mom and Dad. We love you. She is survived by daughters Michele (Lee) Platta of Waupaca and Melanee (friend John Frazier); grandchildren John and Morgan Platta; brother Jim Tremel of Brookfield, sister Diane (John) Conger, step-sister Sue (Egon) Stasiak; sister-in-law Sandra Raphoon; brother-in-law David (Carol) Mirek; special aunt Delores Smith of Illinois; nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives.
