June Schnell died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 30th, 2012 at the Aspirus Hospice House.
She was born June Rose Alice Fischer on January 9th, 1920 in Shawano, Wisconsin to the parents of Arthur and Emma Fischer. Her family later moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin where she spent the rest of her childhood and adolescence.
June then went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Oshkosh Normal Teaching College. Her first job as a teacher was in a one-room schoolhouse in Neshkoro, Wisconsin. After teaching several years, June moved with a friend out to San Diego, California where she met her future husband, Fred Schnell. They were married on January 3rd, 1948 in Oshkosh. The marriage was long and happy with their family including three sons. June and her husband enjoyed the outdoors; especially spending time at their cottage near Eagle River, Wisconsin. June loved to fish, play cards, and cheer for her favorite sports teams; the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. But, what she loved most of all was her family and spending time with them. June was the best wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend a person could ever have. She was a devoted and long-time member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
June gave many times of her talents serving as an active member of various church circles and as a 26 year volunteer at the Wausau Health Care Center.
June is survived by her husband, Fred, sons; Phillip Schnell of Wausau, Bob (Diane) Schnell of Rothschild, and John Schnell of Madison, Wisconsin, grandchildren; Andrew, Michael, Matthew, Marisaa and Abigail, and one great grandchild, Gwendolyn.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister ,Ruth Sonntag and her brothers, Alan, Bill and David Fischer.
Memorials may be directed to Pilgrim Lutheran Church or the Aspirus Hospice House in June’s name.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday May 4, 2012 at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 709 Weston Ave, Weston. Rev. Paulette Creswell will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau and again Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
