Peachtree Ridge’s Luke Upchurch, left, Bryce BeVier and Michael Russell celebrate and cheer with their team after winning the Class AAAAA state swimming championship at Georgia Tech on Saturday.
Each and every lap that the swim team completes raises more money for the Yang family, who lost everything in a fire.
The head coach for the boys says it was the team's idea to start the fundraiser. The D.C. Everest swimmers typically do fundraising for themselves, being self-funded but this time, all the money goes to someone who is in great need of it.
"The coaching staff was struck by the fact that wow this family has nothing so the boys and coaches wanted to do something to help the swimmer."

The swim team is still taking donations. If you want to donate, just make a check payable to D.C. Everest Senior High and write attention Bree Sandquist.
