The swollen Wisconsin river continues to cause problems in Columbia County.

One week after the river hit a record level, some homeowners are still waiting for it to drop to go in and clean up.

Fred Fuerbringer, a Central Wisconsin resident, said all he can do is watch and wait.

Floodwater still cover Fuerbringer's yard, surrounding his satellite dish and drowning his pier.

He said the water is dropping slowly, but Saturday his trailer was still underwater.

He added, "My son started raking up some of the stuff in front and around where we could, cleaning up the debris."

Fuerbringer said he came two inches away from having water in his place.

"When it goes down to normal we clean it up," he said.

It's also been a busy few days of cleanup in Portage's Blackhawk neighborhood.

Residents have been hanging out their rugs and carpet to dry.

The water was so deep in the area that boats were the only means of transportation until this past Monday.

High water still cover some roads. This has been preventing people from reaching their homes. While other places along the river are still underwater.

Emergency management has reported contamination in some wells.
