The Summer Kick-off Celebration is Friday at Oak Island Park on River Drive.

That's because last minute touches are being done on Wausau's new 400 Block.

Next week, the downtown square will be filled with people. There will be a dedication on Monday, concert on the square on Wednesday, and the marketplace on Thursday.

Starting at 5 p.m. Friday, everyone can enjoy live music, face painting, food and more.

The Director of Wausau Area Events said all of the fun is to thank the people of Wausau. "I just think a sense of community. You know coming down with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors. Enjoying all of the offers we do have. I feel we have something for everyone this season," said Kari Rasmussen.

A outdoor movie of "Despicable Me" begins at dusk. The event is free for the public.
