Honoring Korean War Veterans

Many Americans remember the Korean War as the forgotten war, but some people in the Village of Plover are erasing that idea with an annual ceremony.

Berlyn Larson who fought in the Korean War from 1950-1951 said, "We got tied up in some mountain passes and stuff and got surrounded by the Chinese. With God's help we got out of there."

In 1950, U.S. soldiers were battling enemy forces during the split of South and North Korea. it was a deadly war, that took many lives.

Larson added, it was God awful because of so many soldiers that were killed overseas.

It was a frightening year veteran Rollie Diehl spent in the war, but he said he keeps it light when telling stories to his grandson.

"He watches the military channel and I asked him why. He said he's looking for me. I said you won't find me, I'm in the bunkers," jokingly remarked Diehl.

Larson said he would not have been honored at the Worzella Pines Park if it wasn't for the Air Force. "I have no regrets what so ever. It was an honor serving my country and it was an honor serving Korea."

About 75 Korean War vets were honored Sunday for their bravery.
