The Salvation Army Assists Higher Volume of Visitors Over Summer

The Salvation Army in Wausau is preparing for one of the busiest times of the year.

In addition to the holiday season, the end of each month and summer are when workers see an influx of people looking for a hot meal or items from the food pantry. They say it's partly because children are out of school and no longer receive the free or reduced lunches.

"Last year I know toward the end of August, especially, we really peaked on one day," said Captain Brian Goodwill of The Salvation Army. "One-hundred fourty people were served just for one day for lunch, where our normal average number is somewhere around 90 or so people we serve during the day."

Lunch is served at Wausau's Salvation Army Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

If you would like to donate, financial contributions are greatly needed and provide The Salvation Army with the funds to provide services year-round.
