The Special Olympic Winter Games are off to a good start. Hundreds of volunteers, coaches and athletes were on hand making the events possible this weekend.
Special Olympic coaches say the games are a great way for the athletes to not only compete but also have a good time doing it.
There are various sporting events they can participate in such as snow shoe racing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and downhill skiing.
"I think for the 300 hundred athletes here today - its so much more than just sports. Not only are they here trying their hardest, expanding their skills, showing off their new talents, they're also making alot of new friends, " said Kelly Kloepping the VP of Communications in the Special Olympics.
Many people at the event were wearing something that represents thier accomplishments and also what they hope to achieve. These symbols were blue scarfs, representing unity, compassion and empowerment.
