Semi Trailer Leaves Mosinee for East Coast Sandy Relief

For weeks a 53 foot semi trailer has been parked outside Charlie's Hardware store in Mosinee. Sunday that semi will start it's nearly 2 day Journey to New Jersey. Volunteers spent Saturday packing and loading the massive truck full of supplies for victims of Superstorm Sandy.

The project was spearheaded by the Mosinee Area Action Club. Area Lions Clubs also played a huge role in filling the semi.

"I had the honor of being up with the Rib Mountain Lions when they purchased and wheeled out 16 carts full of material supplies for this program and I guess we're rather proud to see all 16 of those yellow jackets," Lions Club District Governor Emil Wasniewski told NewsChannel 7.

Although overjoyed to be helping those on the East Coast, program organizer James Hansford wants to remind everyone of the need here at home.

"We know that there is a local need through the area food pantries and we support that continuously. We don't want this to detract from what's happening at our local food pantries, but there are those unique situations where you just have to reach out farther than local," Hansford said.

The semi truck was donated by Roehl Transport Inc. out of Marshfield. They are also providing the driver and well as paying for all trip expenses.

Hansford is confident they will fill the entire 53 foot trailer with food and supplies, but adds that if they don't the Elkhorn Lions Club has pledged to finish the job.

The truck should make it to New Jersey in time for Thanksgiving.
