One of the Red Cross's longest standing programs is coming to an end.
Beginning in 2011, the Marathon County chapter will no longer offer blood pressure screenings.
Currently the screenings serve between 300-500 people throughout the county each month. There are clinics held several times a week at various locations.
But the program costs about $60,000 a year, and is being cut so the organization can focus on its core issues.
"It's a very unfortunate situation but in these economic circumstances and in these times we really have to go back to providing our core mission that core disaster preparedness response," said Kayla Schmidt, the communication and volunteer coordinator for the Marathon County chapter.
She says the Red Cross is hoping another organization or volunteer group will step up and run the clinics.
The Red Cross has offered to donate its blood pressure gear.
