The Everest Flames were pumped for Saturday's game against the Eau Claire Mustangs.

"I'm pretty excited to play today because we get to play Eau Claire and that's always a tough match up and it's always a close, fun game," team member Ryan Begley told NewsChannel 7.

But for these players this game is about far more than winning. It's also about raising money for our nation's heroes.

"We're doing a military service game for The Wounded Warrior Project where we're wearing our camo jerseys to try to support and honor the veterans who are over seas and already veterans who are not active in our service," Benjamin Weller explained.

For team dad Chris Peloquin, the mission of The Wounded Warrior Project hits home. He knows first hand what it's like to be a veteran. Peloquin spent six years in the Air Force and served in Operation Desert Storm.

"It really is a program to help all of those people coming back to transition back from a very stressful situation to day to day living in our regular lives," Peloquin described.

Saturday's game featured a combine team flag skate followed by a moment of silence and an honorary face off, with a retired U.S. Army and Korean War Veteran dropping the puck. The Flames also collected donations from the crowd during the game.

"We have some donation boxes going around the bleachers today during the game to see if people are generous enough to donate some more," team member Quentin Clark said.

"It feels great to be giving back to the people who are risking their life for our freedom," Weller added.
