The senior prom is one of the most important events in a teenager's life, but the folks at Mount View Care Center in Wausau are proving you only need to be young at heart to enjoy the big event.
The nursing home held its 5th annual senior prom this afternoon, with a theme of: "How Sweet it Is."
Residents dressed up, and the ladies had their hair done. Seven couples were honored as members of the prom court, and many families visited to capture the moment.
Organizers say it's a special time for everyone involved, some who've never experienced the popular rite of passage.
"A lot of the folks never had an opportunity to go to their own prom," said Cagney Martin, an activity therapist. "I think they all like that feeling when they get dressed up and people say how nice they look," she said.
Rudy Kmiecik, who was one of the men crowned king, never went to prom.
"In high school I went to tech and that's it," he said. "Five years of the tech and we didn't have a prom there. "
Though Kmiecik was excited for the day, don't expect him to cut a rug. He says he was never one for dancing.
