Meeting Planned to Discuss Tornado Trees in Merrill

Updated: Wed 2:49 PM, Apr 20, 2011

Some members of the Merrill community are hoping to turn the tornado tragedy into something positive.

A few of them met at the T.B. Scott Library Monday evening to discuss how to make the best use of thousands of downed trees.

"What I'm afraid of is these usable trees are going to be wasted, be shipped somewhere else, go out of town and Merrill is going to re-build with two by fours from Canada," said Mark Duginske a woodworker who lives in Merrill.

He says the trees could be used to help re-build homes, as well as for other structures or projects in the community.

Anyone with specialized skills and people with downed trees on their property are asked to attend a meeting at the T.B. Scott Library Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. Another meeting will take place the following Tuesday at the same time.
