The Hmong Heritage Month Planning Committee is hosting two final events this week.
Dr. Zoua Yang, chair of the committee, says they've hosted five successful events so far in April and hope the last events will be just as celebrated.
On Friday, April 29 the committee will host its 8th annual Luncheon from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at The Rose Garden in Wausau. Late registration is accepted through the day Wednesday, April 27. Contact the Hmong Association at (715) 842-8390. The program includes cultural performances, a video highlighting the month's activities, an Asian-styled meal and a lecture by Dr. Paul Hillmer, author of "A People's History of the Hmong."
On Saturday, April 30 all families are welcome to attend the Family Fitness Day and Resource Fair from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at John Muir Middle School in Wausau. The program includes a free lunch, games and activities for all families and an opportunity for families to speak to local organizations about how to live a healthier lifestyle. This year's Hmong Heritage Month theme is "Spring into Health"
April is Hmong Heritage Month to honor the arrival of the first Hmong family in Marathon County in April 1978.
