They're our nation's bravest, standing side by side to protect and defend our country. Now, they're standing side by side to help each other celebrate the holidays.
If you drive by the VFW in Wausau you may notice a giant semi trailer. In that trailer is more than 500 turkey's Each one with a vet's name on it.
For the last five years, the Man of Honor Society, an organization of veterans dedicated to helping other vets and their families, have been distributing turkeys to vets in our community. A service, Man of Honor Society President Jeff Morgan says is the least they can do.
"It's beyond words," he says getting a little choked up. "It really is. Once you've worn the fabric of the nation, it's a bond that stays with you forever."
The Man of Honor Society will begin distributing turkeys at 9:00 AM Saturday at the Wausau VFW. They'll continue until all the turkeys are gone.
To qualify for a turkey, all you have to do is be a vet of our armed services. The Man of Honor Society just asks for some form of proof of your service. That can be as simple as a picture of you in uniform or a military ID. Turkeys are limited to one per family.
