A 2-year-old girl is safe after wandering off from her grandmother in rural Waupaca County Sunday afternoon.
According to the Waupaca County Sheriff's Dept., the child's grandmother was watching the toddler and two other children in the township of Dayton, when she says the child wandered off into the neighboring public hunting area.
After a brief search, the woman called authorities. A search began, with the departments K-9 unit. After 30 minutes, officers found the child in a heavily wooded area near Radley Creek, about half a mile from the residence. The child was scared but not injured. She was lost for two and a half hours.
The sheriff's department calls the incident a great example of emergency services working together with community members and resulting in a positive outcome.
