Group Tries to Keep Weston Bus Route Alive

A group of local residents is trying to convince the Weston Board of Trustees to reconsider ending funding to the Metro Ride's Route K bus line.

NAOMI, which stands for North Central Area Congregations Organized to Make an Impact, met Tuesday night to discuss alternatives to cutting the line. Some village board members were present.

In February, the board voted to cut the village's local portion of the line's funding to help balance the budget. The cut equates to about $90,000 a year.

Tuesday, Metro Ride Transit Director Greg Seubert addressed NAOMI and board members to offer alternatives. They include increasing rider fees, combining bus routes, and making rides less frequent.

Seubert says he is working with a consultant to discover more cost saving measures.

As it stands, Route K will end January 1st.
