GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- A Green Bay nonprofit says it will grant more than half a million dollars to combat local poverty.

The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation says it will grant $565,000 over the next three years to benefit anti-poverty groups.

The foundation will write checks to five collaborative projects. The funds are expected to benefit a number of organizations.

A Green Bay Press-Gazette report says the largest grant is $225,000 for Community Partnership for Children.

Foundation executive Martha Ahrendt says the goal is to help groups with projects they may not have been able to fund on their own.

She says organizations can reapply for grants every year, but officials discourage that. She says the intent is to provide seed money that the organizations can build on to develop their own sources of income.
